Lotos Kolej is an operator from Poland predominantly active in the domestic market for freight transport. Early 2009, Lotos performed trials with a modern Traxx engine. ATC 186 133, on hire to OHE, visited Poland to show its qualities to interested operators. Later that year, on 12 October 2009, the company closed a deal with Bombardier for the delivery of six Traxx DE diesel units with 2400 kW power rating. The contract value was 18.6 Million Euro and the deal included an option for an additional four locomotives. All locos were to be built in Kassel and delivery would start around the summer of 2011.

 

This order was changed in May 2010, when Lotos made public that the option for the four additional units would be exercised. The delivery of the ten units was also speeded up as all had to be in service before June 2011. The first Lotos diesel-Traxx was presented at the Innotrans railway fair in September 2010.
