Production of the Prima DE43 C AC for RAI, the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, started in 2000. Of the 100 units ordered by RAI, Alstom built the first 20 machines in its plant in Belfort, France, including 5 kits. The remainder was produced by Wagon Pars in Iran. For the 20 units built in France, Ruston supplied the engines (16 RK 215). The engines for the remaining 80 locomotives were built in Iran by DESA as agreed in a technology transfer agreement.
Of the Prima DE43 C AC, which is sometimes referred to as AD43C, three versions exist:
A - Passenger locomotive / 150 km/h / 20.5 tonnes axle load
B - Freight locomotive / 110 km/h / 20.5 tonnes axle load
C - Freight locomotive / 110 km/h / 23.0 tonnes axle load
In total, they are 30 passenger locomotives (Version A) and 70 freight locomotives (Version B/C) built. In this section, only the first twenty locomotives built and assembled in Belfort are presented.
