Takargo Rail, formerly known as Cargo Rail, is the first Portuguese open access freight operator. It's a wholly owned subsidiary of Tertir S.A., which is part of the MOTA ENGIL group.
For international freight services to and from Spain, the company ordered seven EURO 4000 locomotives (with an option for seven more) and 250 container wagons in 2008. In December 2008 the first EURO 4000 for Takargo was spotted in a striking four-tone red livery and in 2009 serie delivery started.
