In short
In early March 2011 an order was announced by Vossloh for the delivery of 14 EURO 4000 locomotives and 15 EURO 3000 locomotives to Israel Railways (IR). It was the first order for the EURO 3000 locomotive type since the Renfe 334 series, which were delivered between 2006 and 2008. An option for additional locomotives was exercised in September 2012, bringing the total number of EURO 3000 locos on order to 24. The units were to be numbered in the 1300 series.
The first EURO 3000 for IR made its public appearance in January 2013, when a white loco showed up in Barcelona. It was numbered 1301, but didn't look like the EURO 3000 locos as we knew them at time. With the delivery of the IR 1300 series an improved version of the original EURO 3000 was introduced, officially known as EURO 3000 AC or EURO 3200. It combines the experiences with the original EURO 3000 with the innovations of the EUROLIGHT locomotive.
