[PL] PKP IC officially orders Gama 111Db diesel locomotives

Home Pesa 111D PKP IC 111Db [PL] PKP IC officially orders Gama 111Db diesel locomotives

131.2m zl., that is the value of the contract that was signed between Polish manufacturer Pesa and PKP Intercity for the delivery of ten Gama 111Db locomotives. The contract includes at least 12 years of maintenance to the locomotives as well.

After one unsuccesful tender in late 2013 and a more succesful tender won by Pesa in February 2014, the contract had not been signed officially yet. This brought Pesa in a difficult position, as the European subsidy involved in the deal would only be awarded if the locomotives are delivered before the end of 2015. Except for one pre-series locomotive, no additional 111Db diesels were manufactured in advance, because PKP Intercity wants to monitor the production of the locomotives closely.

The locomotives will be fitted with MTU 16V 4000 R84 engines, delivering 2.4MW. Furthermore, they will be able to reach speeds up to 160km/h (although the operational speed will be 140km/h) and are compliant with Stage IIIB emission regulations.
